Chapter 05: First Quest Complete

After that, I hunted and gathered several times in the first field before returning to town.

Petit Slimes were manageable, but Petit Rabbits were surprisingly fast and tough opponents. Once, when my sword swung and missed, it hit another one, triggering multiple monsters… That was close. Thank goodness beginner weapons and armour have infinite durability.

And sure enough, ‘Petit Rabbit Meat’ seems a rare drop. I killed about five of them, but only got fur.

If I raise my Luck stat, will rare drops become easier? Or is there another skill for that?

Next up is gathering. There are gathering spots, and I could go through the tutorial again. I’m always relying on Nine.

While gathering, I obtained [Medicinal Herb], but their condition was “Slightly Bad”. Will this be okay for the quest? Maybe I should have learned the [Gathering] skill. Is there a skill training? I’ll check when I report its completion.

By the way, I got a hunger warning pop-up midway, so I ate some portable rations and drank well water from my canteen. Just like the description said, the portable rations weren’t tasty. I really want to buy some different food soon.

* * *

I’ve arrived at the Adventurers’ Guild. It’s packed since it’s the first day of service. Hmm, I really like this kind of atmosphere.

I’ll check my stats and items while waiting in line at the reception desk. My race level has risen to 4. I’ll need new weapons and armour soon since the beginner series will become unusable.

As I expected, Strength and Agility have increased the most. Intelligence hasn’t increased much, and my actual [Water Magic] didn’t gain much power either. (I also didn’t quite grasp the racial benefits to Water Magic.)

However, I plan to train it slowly since it’s a valuable ranged attack. I tried various other skills and got a good feel for how most of them work.

Regarding skill levels, only [Swordsmanship], which I used the most, increased. The new art is [Impact Attack].

It’s a charged attack that takes a little time to activate but delivers a powerful strike. Plus, it seems to have a slight area-of-effect component. The only thing is, it tends to reduce durability quickly. I’ll have to be careful when I buy a new weapon.

I got several items: [Slime Mucus], [Petit Rabbit Fur], and [Medicinal Herb]. I also gathered one [Antidote Herb] through gathering. Are there going to be any poisonous enemies later? Isn’t that a bit early??

While thinking about that, my turn came up, so I reported the quest completion.

“Grassland Monster Hunt” paid off well since I took down a few target monsters.

I also delivered the [Medicinal Herb] without any issues. When I asked the receptionist, they said they’d reduce the payment if the condition was [Bad] or worse. I barely made it! Phew!

Stepping away from the reception desk, I checked the skill training quests from the menu. It seems almost all the weapon skills I could choose as starting skills are available for training. Well, it’s likely some skills wouldn’t feel right once I actually used them.

Then there were several production and general skills like [Appraisal] and [Gathering]. There seemed to be quite a lot to choose from. However, skills like magic or support weren’t among the options.

Glad I picked [Water Magic] and [Body Enhancement] during the initial selection!

Alright, let’s check the details of the skill training quest itself. The fee varies depending on the skill, but it’s not that expensive. As for the time… Whoa! It takes nearly an hour in-game?

Hmm, I’ve done a few battles already, and even with the time extension, real-world time has been ticking away for quite a while now.

Can’t be helped. I’ll log out once, grab lunch, and take the training in the afternoon. I need to decide what to take during lunch.

Author’s note:
・Regarding the item condition.

Material-type items generally have condition statuses. The current tiers are “Very Good → Good → Slightly Good → Normal → Slightly Bad → Bad → Very Bad,” totalling seven tiers.

Although not mentioned in the main text, drop items like slime and fur have condition statuses.

It is possible to obtain materials without the corresponding universal skills (such as [Gathering] [Mining] [Dismantling]), but without the skills, the condition will usually only be “Slightly Bad” or “Bad”.

Also, gathering via drops or points yields only normal or rare items. However, you can also obtain super rare items if you have a certain Art associated with the corresponding universal skill. (In Petit Rabbit terms: normal items are fur, rare items are meat, and super rare items are ears.)

Therefore, it’s wise to acquire universal skills.
