Day 76: Paradise Rush

Day 76 login

[Paradise Rush]

An unusual phenomenon where phantom elements become hyperactive, occasionally occurring within the monster’s lair. This causes rapid growth and mutation in phantom plants and beasts, as well as increased ferocity.

For adventurers, it’s a high-risk, high-reward opportunity to obtain valuable materials.

—A time-limited recurring event held every other week (except World Events, etc.).

The event is held Monday through Sunday for one week, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The field changes weekly.

≪Rules and Notes≫
・Friendly Fire is enabled
・Phantom beasts and materials will increase in level and value as you progress from lower layers to middle layers to deeper layers. However, mutated species (powerful phantom beasts marked with “MUT” next to their species name) can occasionally appear in middle or lower layers, so caution is advised.
・Beginner players can’t participate

When I looked up this “Paradise Rush” thing on a strategy site, I found this explanation. Huh, I see—so it was a time-limited bonus event.

That must be why the Sick Forest was livelier than usual. And since it says ‘Beginner level players can’t participate,’ it means the change happened the moment I stepped into the deep layers, earned the title, and graduated from Beginner status.

But after further research into the Beginner Filter, it seems the event didn’t solely cause the rapid change in scenery.

Until now, during expeditions, the materials available for gathering and the phantoms I encountered weren’t shared with others, right? That was actually one of the special conditions imposed on Beginner players.

I had assumed the entire Kimakura system worked that way, but apparently its original design was different.

Now that I’ve graduated from being a beginner and become a regular player, the materials and monsters I discover are now detectable by other players.

On the bright side, when attacked by monsters, players can now cooperate to help each other. On the downside, it could also lead to players fighting over items.

At the same time, players can now see the skill animations used by other players.

And this seems to be the most troublesome point: being able to perceive others’ skills also means being affected by them.

Friendly Fire is being enabled during Rush, but on regular fields, it is impossible to target players with damage skills or similar abilities. This prevents direct interference through skill usage.

There are some exceptions, however. Among these, one that has recently become particularly threatening is a skill that affects an area rather than a single target.

For area effects, the target isn’t a specific entity, but rather a radius of X meters around their location. So anyone present within that area gets caught up in it, regardless of whether they’re a mob, player, ally, or enemy.

There are also area skills with beneficial effects like healing, so they aren’t all bad. But most seem to lead to unfortunate accidents.

The damage and healing I took from yesterday’s rain of light seems to have been caused by an AOE skill. Since dangers like this will persist no matter what, I must stay extra vigilant on future expeditions.

That said, it seems this AOE skill has only recently become truly something to fear.

This is because, until now, not many people actually used it.

Skills like this are usually classified as “sub-skills,” and the consensus was that they were somewhat inferior compared to high-tier skills or specific job skills.

They were convenient to have, but not worth consuming limited crystals to acquire.

But then a certain national treasure production player started releasing special equipment items with AOE sub-skills, and that seems to have sparked the trend.

Even though it’s an area effect, sub-skills still aren’t considered as valuable as high-tier skills, according to the experts. Despite that, many players still choose to spend crystals on this skill, drawn to the flashy effect it creates on the field.

But man, that so-called national treasure production player sure caused a mess. Probably not their intention, but from the outside, what they’re doing is basically… an arms dealer? No, maybe more like a landmine craftsman?

Either way, for a risk-averse gamer like me, it’s nothing short of a major headache.

Huh? Me?

Well, I’ve indeed put a few items with area sub-skills up for sale, but I’m not flooding the market with them. I’m not causing a major movement or anything, so I’m safe.

Of course, people who use these skills probably check their surroundings first and use them appropriately. Though just reading the text on the website makes it sound pretty vicious, it might not actually be something to be so scared of.

While pondering that and working on a new piece, oh dear, it just happened—the AOE sub-skill.

Well, that means this stuff sells for a high price, right? Heh heh.

[Kimakura Utopia. Talk Room (Official)・General]

[Kana-chan]
Sasa’s burning up like a prairie fire

[Kuruna @ Comeback]
Serves them right.

[Yoshino-san & Beppu]
Sasa’s always a burnt mess anyway, and they don’t give a damn about getting roasted. Normally, I wouldn’t think twice about it,
But this time it’s kinda pitiful.

[Milk Kingdom]
Since the ones burning are their own people (),
Well, since the leader is that kind of person, I guess their own circle has that level of character too,
But it’s not exactly pleasant to watch.

[Ebi Komachi]

These silent types sure do get chatty when criticising others, don’t they?
Guess they really are Sasa’s buddies after all.

[3745]
When you break your own rules, you deserve criticism, right?

[Piano Jam]
Oh dear, Sasa-sama…

[universe202]
Rule One of the Neutrality Pact: When non-members are present, eliminate outsiders first.
= Eliminate outsiders in the hunting grounds upon discovery.
Is this why you’re getting flak?
This whole thing’s just a mess caused by a bunch of crazy troublemakers from start to finish. Just leave it be.

[Koock]
If you think about it calmly, the rules were already fucked up from the start.
In a brawl, there’s no such thing as “who’s right” or “who’s wrong.”

[Woona]
But Sasa argues that “it wasn’t that they let it slide, it was that it wasn’t a threat, so they put it off,” right?
Rules aside, the idea itself has some merit, and the idle members bashing it seem petty to me.

[Panfesta]
That mindset doesn’t work on Sasa.
Because that guy’s always been the type to crush anyone who comes into their sight, whether they’re newbies, veterans, good guys, or bad guys.

[Two]
Human error happens to everyone, though.
People who can make such a fuss over a clip like that are a bit off, I think.
Then again, Sasa is a bit off for letting such a fuss be made over a clip like that,
and Sasa is also kinda off for creating an organisation that gathers people like that.

[Cleaner]
Sorry for all the trouble caused by that video I carelessly uploaded… (´・ω・`)

[Mosha]
Even if it wasn’t human error, and let’s say their claims were just a quick cover-up on the spot…
Then what was the reason Sasa overlooked Boutique back then?
Kindness? Pity? A concession to the B Pact?

[Engineer Z]
Hmm…

[Bourbon]
I’m starting to get a headache.

Let’s drop this topic already.
