Vol. 4 Chapter 19: Run! It’s Yumiela!

Now, we have arrived at the Remrest army’s main camp.

The soldiers are beginning to prepare for the camp, including making fires, with a few of them huddled together.

Full-scale military operations will begin tomorrow. The atmosphere is somewhat restless and tense but also relaxed, with a delicious aroma wafting from the pots on the fire.

I walk along slowly and majestically.

Several people look at me, wondering who I am, but no one speaks to me. Nobody would expect to see someone sauntering in the middle of an enemy army. Who could that be? asks the fellow next to me, but I am too far away to address them.

If she had exposed her black hair, this would not have happened. The black-haired woman who appears in this vicinity is Yumiela. Of all people, Gilbert was the only one who did not notice.

I was able to infiltrate from the side of the army.

The magnificent circular tent at the end of the walk loudly announced the presence of someone important. Two knights stood guard in front of the luxurious tent.

Quietly putting them to sleep and pushing them into the tent would have made a difference to the first prince of Lemrest, who was caught off guard. We should not have assassinated the enemy general. There was no more sneak attack, no more fighting with honor.

I now must lose to the Lemrest Army. And it has to be a sound defeat. But what should I do? Since I had made a big deal with Patrick’s brother, I couldn’t even ask him for a fresh start.

It would be a mistake to run away after saying something like “You defeat me,” in a stiff voice, only to have it be revealed that it was an act.

We don’t want to spread rumors about Yumiela, who played too convincingly and ran away in disgrace. This would make it easier for Yumiela and give Remrest more momentum.

Ideally, by sheer luck, they could fend off the mighty Yumiela! It is difficult enough to fight continuous battles against the Ashbaton army, so let’s return victoriously. This would give the first prince’s faction momentum and an advantage in the succession battle! The balance should be kept that way.

It is impossible to withdraw without showing a fighting spirit from the beginning. They must be made to feel that they’ve done their job.

Did the tiresome frontier count always do this? Gilbert said he would send his men to the front-line fort and let them pull back after a brief skirmish between them. It was easy to say, but I imagine it would be tough.

They will fight without causing damage to their allies and to the extent that the enemy will not be disappointed. If the opponent’s objective is a battle result that’s easy to dispute, it’s pushing it too far.

And the people from Remrest, the last time they saw me, they ran away in a fugue state. While I think it was mostly because I suddenly appeared in a tense scene where both armies were in a standoff, I did nothing at that time.

Previously, my fears were alleviated by Ryuu-kun’s cuteness. But this time, there is nobody to soothe my worries. The situation is even more difficult.

While thinking about these things, I arrived at the most splendid tent.

Although I could have just walked through without trouble, wouldn’t it be better to be discovered? The prince would feel differently if the threat came from far away or if the threat appeared next to him when he noticed it.

The knight on guard approaches me as I’m absentmindedly looking at the tent. Ah, it’s a little more suspicious when I stop, right? The Prince’s guards would know right away that I’m an outsider.

If they asked me to take off my hat, they would instantly know I was Yumiela, and I can imagine Remrest’s army being in chaos and losing successfully.

So much for flying under the radar. The knight finally approached me and spoke.

“What happening? This place will become a battlefield. This is no place for a pretty maiden like you.”

“…Huh?”

He is too friendly for a person in charge of security. What’s his intention?

As one of the pair, he brushes back his bangs with a sparkling smile. The other, the knight who hadn’t moved from in front of the tent, had a disgusted look on his stern face.

“Don’t be alarmed. There’s… me! Emanuel the dancing sword!”

“…Thanks.”

Who is he? Is that a nickname?

But there’s one thing I’ve figured out. This guy is a ponce.

This kind of person has the effect of lowering the fear factor of the place. When things start going like a horror movie, the people around them think that he will be the first one to die, and that gives them a sense of comfort.

Let’s take advantage of him. For a start, I’ll challenge Ema to a one-on-one fight. If people around him think he will be the first to be sacrificed, we might be able to control the mass panic.

All I could get back was a dull response, but he looked the same. Great, you can respond to my one-on-one battle with that kind of flair. He seems overconfident in his strength, so I’m confident.

“What’s the matter? Don’t ruin your pretty face with a sour expression like that, okay?”

“I’m going to challenge you to a one-on-one fight. And this is just how my face is.”

“Oh, one-on-one fight?! It’s a date!”

No, it’s not.

Taking off my white hat, I tossed it into the air. Revealing the back of my hair, which had been hidden in my clothes. Brushing my long, black hair, which seemed to have a weird knot, I announced myself.

“My apologies for the delay. I’m Count Dolknes, Yumiela Dolknes. Now…”

Ema looked dumbfounded and followed the hat in the air with his eyes. Then, he looked back at me and asked my name.

His next move was quick. Since he has two names, he must be a powerful person. With a swift movement, he pressed his stomach.

“My stomach hurts, I’m going home.”

He is fast. He took a right turn, sprinted, passed by the tent where the guard was supposed to be, and headed toward Remrest. He was getting smaller and smaller.

“Eh—”

In horror movie theory, those who tried to escape by running away from the scene would die. But since I don’t chase after them, they will live.

The one-on-one battle was lost, but that didn’t mean my name wasn’t out there.

The knight’s partner who escaped, a stern-looking man, heard my words perfectly.

“Yumiela! It’s Yumiela! The Balshine’s Demon King has raided the headquarters!”

The warning spread through the army like a ripple.

The screams are rising. People get up and fall in panic. Pots overturned.

Ahhhh. When the panic spreads to this level, it’s hard to stop it. Taking action would be counterproductive, and I don’t know what to do…

While standing, unable to do anything, someone’s voice rang loudly.

“Calm down! You forgot about our secret weapon!”
