Day 39: Serenity Hill (3)

“I’ve got some interesting items for you today. Come on, take a look.”

Magdalene, the self-proclaimed wandering pharmacist, has approached me again, this time for business. Unlike before, other options appear in the dialogue.

→・ Show me your products!
・ Teach me the Secret of Boundary
・ Teach me the Secret of Merchant
 ・ Make small talk

What do the second and third options mean? As a test, I selected [・ Teach me the Secret of Boundary], and Magdalene-san smiled wryly from behind her mask.

“Hmmm, are you trying to squeeze something spectacular out of this humble old pharmacist? Hmm, I see that the crystal in your hand seems to be the real thing. The star crystals shine only for those who approach the abyss of the world. If you are worthy of holding them, maybe there is something about you. Now, there are three secrets I can teach you. For each one, you require 10 [Fog Crystal] and 2 [Star Crystal]. Which one will you choose?”

→・ Soul Crushing Might: Break your bones, shatter your body, and protect the past!
・ Hell Ears: The wind is blowing, my friend, yet your appearance seems unchanged.
・ Character Observation Insight: My friend, where your heart is
 ・ Not now

Huh? Suddenly, there’s a full-blown chuuni ruby word and flavour text. Finally, there’s a reveal on how to use the star crystal…?

Leaving this matter aside, I moved on to […of Merchant]. This time, the following options appeared.

→・ Bargaining
 ・ Promotion
 ・ Appraisal
 ・ Market Research

Haha. Could it be that this is a skill—which seems to be a job skill that merchants usually get?

The exchange rate is half the price of the Secret of Boundary, each requiring five Fog Crystals or one Star Crystal. It seems that the Secret of Boundary is also a skill.

However, I had no idea what was going on with just those skills. I decided to cut the conversation with Magdalene-san for now and do a quick search.

Hmm… the Secret of Boundary is what you call a high-skill or a high-level skill.

Hell Ears is a skill that allows you to know where to meet certain NPCs and where events are happening. Character Observation Insight is a skill that will enable you to tell the difference between an NPC’s level of favorability and unfavorability when talking to them.

While neither of these skills are unconditional or perfect, they are useful in communicative missions.

However, the description for Soul Crushing Might is written as [???] on the strategy site. They haven’t figured out this skill yet.

The only thing is that it’s quite brutal, so it doesn’t seem to suit me as a production player. As a solo player, I want skills useful for expeditions, but I don’t want to acquire something without any known details.

There are many other high skills besides those mentioned by Magdalene-san, taught by ‘wise men’ at various locations.

Giltoa and Tefana-san, who seem to be my Master, are among them.

The strategy site also had a list of other high skills, so I skimmed through it.

Chemical Reactions can manipulate natural phenomena by artificially inducing phantom reactions; Crystal Refining, which collects phantoms and materializes them into crystal items; and the so-called Item Catalogue in the Library. Hmm, there are many interesting things here.

Other useful features include an in-body Memo that automatically saves logs of production activities and can be viewed at will and Dominate, allowing beasts up to two ranks higher than yourself to run away when encountered.

Sure, Hell Ears and Character Observation are also fascinating.

Each sage is in charge of one job, with the possibility of acquiring any of a myriad of job skills in exchange for crystals.

Ah~ this is confusing.

The skills I can get from Magdalene-san are useful, but I’m unsure if I want them over the others.

Since Magdalene-san seems somewhat elusive, I’m caught up in the fact that I can’t meet her immediately when I want to.

For example, after the revolutionary event, Giltoa-san stopped teaching his secrets even when we encountered him. Is there a strong element of a once-in-a-lifetime encounter here?

It has been over a month since I started the game, but considering I have only obtained two Star Crystals, I should not use them carelessly.

I’m going to be patient here. I want more! I’ll save these crystals for later until I find a skill that I really want!

[Kimakura Utopia. Talk Room (Official)・General]

[Woona]
Orca-sama is a woman of many virtues: she is calm, soothing, patient, and capable of taking action when the need arises
She is a sage, and yet she also helps out with expeditions. She is truly a great saint!

[Yoshino-san & Beppu]
And yet you believers are fighting over the position near Orca-sama in the forest purification event
You guys have no manners

[Panfesta]
That’s not true… Woo-san and I had made a silent peace agreement and were getting along well with each other and worshipping the divine figure of Orca-sama in harmony
The problem is the people who chased after Tefana after that and tried to take away our sanctuary

[Lingling]
Whatever it was, it turned into a fight, and they couldn’t do their job

[Milk Kingdom]
I know who they are
At that time, the association itself wasn’t very well known, so I guess they didn’t think they’d be recognized
It was Kudou who got mad and threw the bomb, right?
Because of that, the forest master found out, and the mission failed

[KUDOU-S1]
Stop making false accusations
I didn’t even participate in that event

[Milk Kingdom]
Whenever there’s Lingling, there’s Kudou

[Broke SummeR]
Can’t you build a home in Hakuran?

[Momotaro]
You can’t build in Hakuran, Leche, or Dahlstrom
They only function as a supply town

[Makoto-chan]
I hope there will be a new development soon with a new bigger town
All the prosperous places are sold out, and there is no room left

[Chon]
Why not go to the Lestein town centre?
There’s a vacant property there that you can buy for 100 million

[Makoto-chan]
Please shut up(^ω^)

[Mayu]
Momo bought that last week

[Woona]
LOL

[Lingling]
LMAO

[Momotaro]
Tbh, I don’t really need it
I thought I’d upgrade my property because I have some spare cash

[Mercury]
Stop stirring the pot

[Chon]
As expected of a wealthy merchant who caused disasters for money, you have good taste
