Vol. 4 Chapter 23: Doomsday Clock Cinderella

It was floating and gradually gaining altitude.

It had wings on its back. This is an extremely rare phenomenon in which magic power, which is usually fluid and has neither shape nor colour, becomes solid.

The black wings, which consist of six pairs of twelve, constantly change shape and grow in size. The wings can be seen from a distance, but not the humanoid figure in the center.

It had a halo on its head. The black halo was multi-layered and spread out like Saturn’s rings.

Too evil to be called an angel, too divine to be called a demon, too blasphemous to be called a god.

The Remrest army was surrounding it. They were simply watching as it spread her wings and circled.

Nobody runs away. No matter where they run to or how little they understand, they know it is useless.

Nobody screams. Exhaling air from the lungs and shaking the vocal cords isn’t worthwhile.

Nobody talks to each other. Everyone’s thoughts are the same; there is zero need to speak to gain sympathy.

Nobody writes a will. The person to whom they leave their wills will disappear.

Nobody fights. There is no need to explain why.

Resignation would be more appropriate than despair. What can be done is futile; the only thing to do is accept this phenomenon.

The surrounding area has become quiet and still. As the Remrest soldiers watched, it grew larger and larger every second.

While the black wings move upward, the circle expands horizontally in all directions. After reaching a certain altitude, the twelve wings move to encircle the planet. Then, the black rings spread out to cover and envelop the sky around the world…

The black wings and rings could be observed all around the world, and disturbance spread across the globe. People with good intuition and high sensitivity saw the mysterious phenomenon and even imagined its presence, and they were dragged into the abyss of despair.

The capital of Balshine.

The cloudy sky was a blessing, revealing no visible wings. But the thin circular ring spreading below the clouds was visible.

While the citizens who saw the stripes in the sky grew anxious, the royal castle was busy trying to grasp the situation.

The reports compiled from various departments were reported to the king.

According to the records, the kingdom’s weather experts claimed this was the first such a phenomenon had occurred.

The head of the royal court mage was summoned to the king’s side. He rushed, whipping his old body, and expressed his opinion as he regained his breath.

“A large flow of magic power from west to east has covered the entire sky. It must be coming from the west.”

The king looked out from his office window. A stripe pattern in the sky separated the east from the west.

“Oh, the magic power flow. Reports from outside the capital say they saw a huge object on top of the clouds. It is black and looks like leaves or feathers. Could it be magic related?”

“I haven’t seen anything, so I can’t say for sure.”

“Black magic… for some reason, I can’t help but remember that girl.”

“It’s impossible. The scale of this phenomenon is beyond the realm of a kingdom. No matter how extraordinary she may be, she couldn’t possibly do something like this.”

The old mage believed this phenomenon was beyond human understanding. There is nothing mankind can do about it.

They have no idea what caused this phenomenon. Was it God’s descent, or was it the prelude to the end of the world?

Then, a new person appeared in the office. It was a member of the knights in charge of maintaining order.

The conversation between the king and the head of the royal court mage is temporarily interrupted, and the king sends instructions warning against crimes that might be committed by those taking advantage of the chaos.

Feeling out of touch, the mage shuddered when he saw the eerie patterns in the sky.

On a distant continent, somewhere in the middle of the night, due to the time zone difference, a blind swordsman detected a strange phenomenon. He has lived in a world of darkness for twenty-four hours, and he senses more darkness.

“So… is this the end?”

“Master? What’s wrong?”

“No, nothing. You should go to bed.”

“Yes, sir! I’m going to rest for tomorrow’s practice! Good night.”

With his keen hearing, the blind swordsman listens to his apprentice’s heartbeat as it fades away and contemplates the details of tomorrow’s training.

“When tomorrow comes…”

A certain town. In a church steeple.

The God of Darkness complains to the God of Light as they watch the end of the world.

“I told you! Remember what I said about killing her sooner rather than later? I said it over and over again!”

“God watches over people. Killing people is not allowed. How many times do I have to say it?”

“Looking at this scene, I don’t understand how you can call that thing a human being.”

“She is a person. She is a human being whom I cherish. And people settle their disagreements, don’t they?”

Remn sighed that this was not worth talking about. The situation had already gone beyond the point where God could intervene.

It was pointless struggling, and there was no option but to watch from the sidelines. As Sanon said, all that remained was to hope for the best from the humans.

“I’m counting on you, Onii-san.”

“How about you call me by my name, at least at times like this?”

“Shut up, Sanon! Aren’t you the one who’s not willing to compromise your beliefs in times like these?”

“Remn, be quiet.”

Then there was Druknes territory without a lord.

Thanks to the clear skies, they could see everything.

People rushed in and out of the lord’s residence to try to understand what was happening, and panic spread throughout the town. Amid it all, only one person remained calm as usual.

“Yumiela-san is doing something crazy again.”

“Eleanora-sama! You are here in a place like this. Hurry up and get to a safe place…”

The maid called out to Eleanora, staring at the sky in a daze.

She remains motionless when told to move to a safe place, staring out the window.

“Is it really a safe place?”

“……Surely.”

The maid stiffened when Eleanora pointed out.

“The person doing this is obviously Yumiela, so you shouldn’t be too afraid.”

“It’s Yumiela-sama after all, isn’t it? I thought the world was going to end…. I have to believe in Yumiela-sama.”

No, it will be destroyed. If things remain this way, the world will cease to exist. Eleanora almost said so honestly, but she kept quiet because she didn’t want to cause unease.

Eleanora trusts Yumiela. She believes Yumiela could easily destroy a world or two to prove her strength.

But Eleanora isn’t fazed. Her thoughts turned to someone she trusted as much as she trusted Yumiera.

“I hope Patrick-sama can stop her… but it’s not my problem to figure this out.”
